Running the command 'ccmsrv online' results in "Fatal error in shared memory creation"

Attempts to run the command 'ccmsrv online' results in the error "oninit: Fatal error in shared memory creation".

Running the command 'ccmsrv online' results in the following error:

Bringing the database server 'ccm63' to the 'On-Line' state? (Y/N) [Y] y
oninit: Fatal error in shared memory creation

The error message in the Informix log appears to be a problem with shared memory.
The shared memory is not being released from one of the earlier attempts to bring the Informix server on-line.

It could also be 'ccmsrv offline' not responding, due to problem in the shared memory.

Resolving The Problem

The recommended steps to free the shared memory are as follows:

  1. Reboot the server on which Informix database server is installed.

  2. Run ipcs -ms and check if there are any shared memory segments for user/group Informix and then release these memory segments.

  3. If there is more than one Informix server on the machine, shutdown all the Informix servers and then free the shared memory.

The ipcrm command can be used to release shared memory and semaphores from a memory ID.
Contact your System Administrator for more assistance on clearing the shared memory.

When there is no shared memory being held by Informix, run the command 'ccmsrv online' to bring the Informix server on-line again.
