Problem

This technote explains how to resolve an Run-time error '91' error, that can occur when using IBM Rational RequisitePro.

Symptom

Error message "Run-time error '91': Object variable or With block variable not set", in ReqWeb, when you create a new requirement from a document in Edit mode

Cause

If in a project exists a requirement type that contains in the name an "&" character the error message appears to all documents in the project.

To reproduce this behavior:

  1. In a project, create a requirement type, with Name: "Functional & Non-functional Reqs" (for example).
  2. Any document in this project, will have this error when you create a new requirement from a document in Edit mode. In ReqWeb, open any document and select Edit to have a document in Edit mode.
  3. In the downloaded document, select text and try to create a new requirement (either clicking on the Create requirement button going to RequisiteWeb > Requirement > New Mark, or RequisiteWeb > Requirement >New Wizard)
  4. The error will be thrown, see image:

Resolving The Problem

To resolve this issue, remove the "&" from the requirement type name.
