Rule Designer fails to install on Eclipse Modeling 4.30

Troubleshooting

Problem

Installing Rule Designer for IBM Operational Decision Manager on Cloud or IBM Cloud Pak for Business Automation as a Service fails with an error:

Symptom

When you are installing Rule Designer on Eclipse Modeling Tools 4.30, you get an issue for osgi.bundle; org.jdom2 0.0.0. You cannot complete the installation because one or more required items cannot be found.

Cause

A requirement is missing. During installation, ODM Shared - Shared Bundle 9.0.0.0-IF003 (ilog.rules.shared 9.0.0.0-IF003) cannot find osgi.bundle; org.jdom2 0.0.0. This issue affects later versions of the bundle as well, for example, ODM Shared - Shared Bundle 9.0.0.0-IF004 (ilog.rules.shared 9.0.0.0-IF004).

Environment

The software that is being installed is IBM ODM on Cloud - Rule Designer 9.0.0.0-IF003 (com.ibm.rules.studio.cloud.feature.feature.group 9.0.0.0-IF003) or later.

Diagnosing The Problem

Cannot satisfy dependency

Resolving The Problem

Follow these steps to resolve the problem:

Install Eclipse IDE for Java Developers 4.30 or Eclipse IDE for Enterprise Java and Web Developers 4.30. (If you choose the standard Eclipse Java IDE, you need extra connectivity to install EMF.)
Install IBM ODM on Cloud - Rule Designer as usual.
Recommended: Deselect all automatic updates except the ODMoC p2 site:
1. Open Eclipse.
2. Open Window > Preferences > Install/Update > Available Software Sites.
3. Deselect all the sites except the ODMoC p2 site.

After you install Rule Designer, test whether it works, for example, import a project and connect it to Decision Center. If you have a previous version of Rule Designer installed, you can uninstall it and its Eclipse after installing and testing the newer version.
