IBM Support

RSA II Remote Control using Microsoft Internet Explorer does not work with Sun Java 1.6 - IBM System x

Troubleshooting

Problem

When opening the web session to the Remote Supervisor Adapter II (RSA II) card and then starting the Remote Control session from within, the session will fail on the Java Applet (orange Java symbol). The failed session will cause the RSA to hang. The system has to be restarted in order to recover. The symptom has been observed only with Internet Explorer 5, 6, and 6.5 it will only load a single applet at a time (remote disk or remote video) or hang at the orange Java symbol before the applet finishes loading. The same symptoms are noticed using Java 5 as well. The browsers, Mozilla Firefox and Netscape, work normally.

Workaround

Try the latest version available from Sun website.

The file is available from at the following URL: http://www.sun.com/

The latest version available now: Java 6, update 5.

Remove Java certificates as follows:

  1. Open the Java Control Panel from either the Control Panel or, if not present then use: c:\programfiles\Java\jre1.6.0_02\bin\javacpl.exe
  2. Click the Security Tab and click Certificates.
  3. Remove the two IBM certificates.
  4. Verify the check box "always trust" is not enabled (or the user will have to go back and remove the certificates again when this issue happens again).

Note: Each time the user loads the Remote Control page, the user will have to accept the two certificates.

If problem still persists we recommend going back to version 1.4.2 because it is the most stable one.

Additional information

This issue is with Java's early versions of 5 and 6.

The file remotedrive.dll is responsible for remote disk and Java applet stability, when running RSA II remote control session, it is pulled from the RSA II firmware.

The remotedrive.dll files for each connection made (web session) are stored in c:\documents and settings\administrator\IBM\. Each connection will show the IP address folder after the "IBM" directory. Delete the folder while disconnected from the RSA to ensure the newest Java version is used on the next connection.

Example:

  c:\documents and settings\administrator\IBM\192.168.70.125\remotedrive.dll
