RPTLicenseException at start performance schedule

Troubleshooting


Problem

Attempts to run an IBM® Rational® Performance Tester (RPT) schedule result in "Error attempting to acquire licenses for test run".

Symptom

The error message is:

RPTLicenseException: Error attempting to acquire licenses for test run. See problem determination log for more information

You run your schedule with more than five virtual users (VU).

The lmgrd log shows the following error messages.

 

lmgrd) telelogic exited with status 27 (No features to serve)

(lmgrd) telelogic daemon found no features.  Please correct

(lmgrd) license file and re-start daemons.

(lmgrd)

(lmgrd) This may be due to the fact that you are using

(lmgrd) a different license file from the one you expect.

(lmgrd) Check to make sure that:

(lmgrd) C:\Program Files\Rational\common\rational_server_perm.dat C:\Program Files\Rational\common\rational_server_temp.dat

(lmgrd) is the license file you want to use.

(lmgrd)

(lmgrd) is the license file you want to use.

The lmgrd daemon then stops the communication with the vendor daemons. As a consequence you cannot check-out the VU license.

Cause

The presence of the VENDOR rational and VENDOR telelogic lines in the license file.

As of IBM® Rational® License Key Server v8.1.1 the ibmratl vendor daemon is serving license features that were previously served by the telelogic and rational vendor daemons. The latter two daemons are now no longer required and need to be removed from the license file to avoid any issues with the operation of the IBM® Rational® License Key Server.
You have the following situation:
  • You license IBM® Rational® Performance Tester with a FLEXlm Floating User license.

Resolving The Problem

Consider the following steps.

  1. Remove the following VENDOR lines from rational_server_perm.dat.
    VENDOR rational 
    VENDOR telelogic     
  2. Stop and restart the IBM® Rational® License Key Server, so it rereads the corrected license file.

Verify if you now you can obtain the Virtual User Testing license.
