Question & Answer
Question
When restoring a rootvg wpar image into another LPAR, we face a device ID erros
Cause
The cause for this issue is the wpar.spec file is using the source LPAR disk UUID in the new destination LPAR restore operation
Answer
To overcome the UUID issue, The following procedures should be followed:
1) Backup the WPAR from source LPAR_1:
LPAR_1# savewpar -f /tmp/WPAR.img WPAR_NAME
2) Copy /tmp/WPAR.img image and /tmp/wpardata/LPAR_1/wpar.spec files
To the destination LPAR_2 new directory: /tmp/LPAR_2
3) Edit the /tmp/LPAR_2/wpar.spec file on the destination LPAR_2
And change disk device devid's to the new disk devid's on the destination LPAR_2:
# vi /tmp/LPAR_2/wpar.spec
Step_3 is the most important one, since the most difference between LPAR_1
And LPAR_2 is the disk UUID.
4) Change networks to new IP addresses if necessary.
5) Now issue the restwpar command:
LPAR_2# restwpar -a -M "-L ignore_maps=yes ignore_lvs=yes" -f /tmp/LPAR_2/WPAR.img -w /tmp/LPAR_2/wpar.spec
