Resolving performance degradation issues with Big SQL queries

Troubleshooting

Problem

After moving to InfoSphere BigInsights 2.1, Fixpack 1 or 2, some Big SQL queries take longer to run.

Symptom

Query response time increases considerably after you install or upgrade to InfoSphere BigInsights 2.1.0.1 or 2.1.0.2. A query that selects only a subset of columns can take longer to run, when compared to the time for the same query in InfoSphere BigInsights 2.1.

For example,
SELECT col1 FROM columns10;

The above query that selects a single column from a table with 10 columns runs slower after you upgrade to InfoSphere BigInsights 2.1, Fixpack 1 or 2. Queries like the one in the example on HBase tables run slower.
