RES cannot startup with error message "init_res: calloc() failed, Resource temporarily unavailable." in log file

Troubleshooting


Problem

RES failed to start and in the RES log it says: init_res: calloc() failed, Resource temporarily unavailable.

Symptom

RES cannot be started by running "lsadmin resstartup"

Cause

This message indicates the RES process failed to get enough resource from OS.

Diagnosing The Problem

Under "bash" shell run ulimit -a to list all limits of OS and enlarge "stack size"

Resolving The Problem

1. Increase "open files" (ulimit -n) and "stack size" (ulimit -s) with root on problematic hosts

2. Restart RES on problematic hosts by running commands below

lsadmin resshutdown

lsadmin resstartup
