Troubleshooting
Problem
This technote identifies what causes the error, Runtime Error: The setting could not be created, and its resolution in IBM® Rational® RequisitePro® .
Symptom
The full error message is as follows:
Runtime Error: The setting could not be created. (RqWordServices.WordWrapper,0,5416)
This unexpected event was recorded in the log file:
C:\PROGRAM FILES\RATIONAL\REQUISITEPRO\BIN\ERROR.LOG

Cause
The error is thrown when RequisitePro tries to execute a particular line of code in the ReqPro Macros to enable Hidden Text.
Diagnosing The Problem
This can be reproduced outside of RequisitePro by executing the following line in a VBA Macro in Microsoft® Word:
ActiveWindow.View.ShowHiddenText = True
Resolving The Problem
To execute this particular line of code, the "Auto Recover" field requires a valid path. While the "Auto Recover" field may appear to be valid inside of Microsoft Word settings, it is possible that the group policy settings for Microsoft Word has this setting enabled, but with no value entered. By default, if this setting is enabled, the value of the path is actually blank and needs to be filled out.
To access the group policy settings for Microsoft Word, it may be necessary to install the Office Group Policy ADM files available at the following location:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=92759d4b-7112-4b6c-ad4a-bbf3802a5c9b&displaylang=en (For MS Word 2000 - 2003 SP1)
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=92D8519A-E143-4AEE-8F7A-E4BBAEBA13E7&displaylang=en (For Word 2007)
To resolve this, launch the Group Policy Editor (Start > Run > gpedit.msc), and navigate to the following setting:
If you do not see this setting, but have installed the ADM file, you must add the ADM file. Right click on the "Microsoft Office Word 2007" folder shown below, and select "Add/Remove Templates", and browse to the ADM file that you installed.

Right click "AutoRecover files" and either enter a path in the "AutoRecover files" field below, or set this value to "Not Configured". Notice that by default, this field is blank which is causing the error. A valid path needs to be set in this field to prevent this issue from occurring again.

Please note:
This is strictly a Microsoft Word issue. The RequisitePro macros simply contain the line of code that Word is failing to execute. If the problem persists after following this technote, please contact Microsoft Support for additional assistance.
