What is new in this release

This section describes the new enhancements for Tivoli Workload Scheduler for Applications, version 8.6.

Enhancements to the Dynamic Workload Console integrating improved presentation, definition, and management of SAP jobs.

The Dynamic Workload Console has been extended to include support to, not only extended agents, but also dynamic agents and Tivoli Workload Scheduler for z/OS agents.

Tivoli Workload Scheduler for z/OS® users can now define and maintain SAP standard R/3, Business Warehouse Process Chain, and Business Warehouse InfoPackage jobs from the Dynamic Workload Console in the same way as Tivoli Workload Scheduler users do. In addition, a new, simple procedure for creating SAP jobs from the Dynamic Workload Console, in both distributed and z/OS environments, on a remote SAP system has been implemented. The job can then be linked to a Tivoli Workload Scheduler SAP R/3 job definition and be managed by Tivoli Workload Scheduler.

Enhancements were implemented as a result of the certification of the SAP eXternal Interface for Job Background Processing for BC-XBP 7.00 (V3.0). New capabilities include:

  • Creating and managing criteria profiles.
  • SAP application log and return code mapping.
  • On demand spool list content download.
  • Support for SAP temporary variants.

New plug-ins for external applications
New plug-ins let you extend the job scheduling capability of Tivoli Workload Scheduler to external applications such as:
  • InfoSphere® DataStage®
  • Cognos®
  • SAP PI Channel
Support for SAP Secure Network Communication (SNC)
New options are available to enable Tivoli Workload Scheduler for Applications to use SNC products for Remote Function Call (RFC) encryption.
Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) cryptographic modules
A new r3batch common configuration option is added to enable the use of the FIPS-compliant algorithm for data encryption.
Job Scheduling Console no longer supported.
With this release, the Job Scheduling Console is no longer supported and the Dynamic Workload Console replaces it.

For more information about enhancements available for this release, see the Product Overview.

Compatibility table

This section shows the new enhancements for Tivoli Workload Scheduler for Applications and the compatibility with other components and products.

Tivoli Workload Scheduler for Applications in a z/OS environment requires that the z/OS engine, the z/OS Tivoli Workload Scheduler connector, and the agent all be at the 8.6.0.1 level. In addition, for some of the new enhancements available with this release, the SAP eXternal Interface for Job Background Processing BC-XBP 7.00 (V3.0) certification level is required.

For Tivoli Workload Scheduler for Applications in a distributed environment, see the Compatibility table.

New enhancements on dynamic workstations require an agent at the 8.6.0.1 level. This level can vary for some of the enhancements on other types of workstations.

The following acronyms are used:

XA Extended agent
APPS Tivoli Workload Scheduler for Applications
BC-XBP SAP eXternal Interface for Job Background Processing BC-XBP certification level
Agent The agent workstation where the access method runs

Installation limitations and problems, and their workarounds

Software limitations and workarounds

Software limitations and workarounds

The following are software problems and workarounds that affect Tivoli Workload Scheduler for Applications version 8.6.

Intallation log file created in incorrect folder if installation is cancelled. (Defect 49485)

If you launch the installation of Tivoli Workload Scheduler for Applications and then subsequently cancel the installation, the installation log file is erroneously created on the desktop rather than in the TEMP\TWS\tws4apps directory.

Workaround: Copy the log file to the path: /logs.

Uninstall step omitted from list. (Defect 49488)

When you run the uninstall procedure to uninstall one ore more access methods, a summary list of the steps involved is displayed in the left pane of the uninstall panel. The step involving the selection of the access methods to be uninstalled is not displayed in the summary list, however, this step is performed during the uninstall procedure.

Problem selecting instances and language when installing. (Defect 49614)

If you use Xming X Server and have two or more Tivoli Workload Scheduler instances running, then you might encounter a problem with selecting an instance other than the first instance. The language selection panel can have the same problem. This problem occurs most frequently on HP-UX Integrity systems.

Workaround: Use the down arrow cursor key on the keyboard to make a selection different from the one displayed.

Uninstall procedure does not start if the product was installed in a path containing unicode characters. (Defect 58696)

If Tivoli Workload Scheduler for Applications was installed in a path containing unicode characters, for example, /opt/ibm/twà_dyn), and then subsequently you run the uninstall procedure using the _tws4apps_uninst script, the uninstall does not start.

Workaround: Replace the unicode characters with the corresponding national characters and resubmit the uninstall script. For example, change \u00e0 in _tws4apps_uninst.lax to à.

Difficulty reading the list of summary items displayed in the left pane when running the installer on a computer displaying DBCS characters. (Defect 58954)

The text strings, composed of DBCS characters, listed in the list of summary items displayed in left pane when using the installer do not wrap and can be difficult to read. As a consequence, long text strings are truncated and finish with the symbol (...).

Difficulty reading the list of summary items displayed in the left pane when running the installer with the German or Spanish locale set. (Defect 60979)

The text strings listed in the list of summary items displayed in left pane when using the installer wrap awkwardly and can be difficult to read.

The list of summary items displayed in the left pane when running the installer, with the Japanese locale set, reports an incorrect translation for the first item in the list that corresponds to "Introduction" in English. (Defect 61388)

The first text string listed in the list of summary items displayed in left pane when using the installer with the Japanese locale set displays an incorrect translation. The text string should display the Japanese translation for "Introduction".

Large amount of temp space required for installation. (Defect 59379)

If you are installing all of the access methods and all of the Tivoli Workload Scheduler for Applications Plug-ins, a large of amount of temp space is required.

Uninstall procedure completes successfully but reports a warning and _tws4apps_uninst is not removed. (Defect 59965)

After running the uninstall script _tws4apps_uninst, the script is not removed and the installation completes successfully, but the following warning is reported in the uninstall log:

Status:WARNING
Additional Notes: WARNING - Directory contains deleted protected files

Uninstall procedure completes successfully but reports a warning. (Defect 60810)

After running the unintsall script _tws4apps_uninst, the installation completes successfully, but the following warning is reported in the uninstall log:

Status:WARNING
Additional Notes: WARNING - The file does not exist

Product related problems

Intercepted jobs cannot be relaunched in a z/OS environment (Defect 60698)

The process of defining relaunch criteria and collecting and relaunching intercepted jobs is supported only in distributed environments and not in z/OS environments.

Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) cryptographic modules are not supported on SuSE Linux 32 bit. (Defect 55580)

The enigma utility installed with Tivoli Workload Scheduler for Applications, Version 8.6 for encryption on SuSE Linux 32 bit does not work in FIPS operation mode because it is built using libraries that are not compatible with FIPS.

A request to rerun a process chain is made from the Dynamic Workload Console, but the operation is set to start. (Defect 61976)

Rerunning a process chain from the Dynamic Workload Console where the operation in Tivoli Workload Scheduler for z/OS is linked to a special resource that is not available results in the operation being set to start.
