Background

IBM Security Directory Server provides a solid directory foundation that can help provide a trusted identity data infrastructure that enables mission-critical security and authentication. It provides a server that stores directory information by using a DB2® database, a proxy server for routing LDAP operations to an appropriate directory server, client utilities, and graphical user interfaces (GUI) for managing servers and users.

Benefits

• A more consistent user experience through introduction of vendor-specific password policy processing in pass-through authentication. Communication that is related to the password policies, such as error messages, are presented in a more meaningful way regardless of which vendor software is used.
  
• Improved replication with new configuration tool to easily configure various replication topologies. This tool simplifies the process of setting up replication and reduces errors that might occur when setting up replication.
  
• Enhanced audit and reporting that provides the ability to record the time stamp that corresponds to the last successful authentication for a user. This enhancement can be used to implement security policies or to display on a web portal.
  
• Platform support currency updates to accommodate the latest versions or releases of IBM DB2, IBM Global Security Kit (GSKit), IBM WebSphere® Application Server, and IBM Security Directory Integrator.
  
• Advanced password policy settings that enforce rules for advanced password syntax checking in addition to the standard default rules. This enables password complexity that helps to strengthen the security of authentication mechanisms.
  
• Automated monitoring script that gathers data while IBM Security Directory Server is running, which can be used to troubleshoot resource usage.
