Reference to an object that does not exist error, when changing password in ClearQuest MultiSite

Troubleshooting

Problem

This technote explains how to resolve an error, "There is a reference to an object that does not exist". This can occur when changing a user password in IBM® Rational® ClearQuest® MultiSite.

Symptom

There are two databases, SAMPL and Test. SAMPL is replicated; Test is not replicated.

  1. User A is created at site A ( working master site) and mastered there. User A is subscribed user databases SAMPL and Test.
  2. Go to site A and change the mastership of the user A to site B.
  3. Synchronize the databases between sites A and B.
  4. Go to site B and open the ClearQuest Designer and select Tools -> User Administration and select to edit that user.
  5. The following error occurs when trying to save new password, and the password remains unchanged:
ERROR! An error was detected retrieving information from the ClearQuest
database. There is a reference to an object that does not exist:
    Object Type: MasterdataObject
    Object: xxxxxxxx
This error was detected at: ClearQuest Core: admasterdatamgr.cpp:2291
