Recovery options for SRCB6000202 if Load Source disk is mirrored

Troubleshooting

Problem

Possible recovery options for refernce code B6000202 - Unrecoverable read error - if load source disk unit is mirrored

Symptom

SRCB6000202

Cause

Unrecoverable read error on Load Source unit while accessing System LIC during IPL

Resolving The Problem

IBM i IPL code does not automatically attempt to use the mirrored copy of the Load Source when damage has occurred in the SLIC area of the primary Load Source disk unit. IPL from an existing disk configuration uses the Load Source location information in the partition's Vital Product Data to determine where LIC is loaded, not the LS tagging in the partition configuration. Because the partition has not IPL'd far enough to start the SLIC mirroring function, the failing Load Source disk unit is not suspended. Since the failing Load Source disk unit is still in an Active state, the Service Processor does not use the mirrored copy of the Load Source for the IPL.

In light of this, there are two recommended recovery options:

1) The easiest solution is to try D-mode IPL from media and slip install SLIC to the Load Source disk unit. Retry the B mode IPL to see if it is successful.

2) Physically unplug the Load Source disk unit.

On the next IPL, the Service processor will detect that the Load Source disk unit is not present and it will perform the IPL using the mirror mate Load Source disk.
