Recording GUI script under Vista, 7, 2008 and 2008 R2 yields blank script

Troubleshooting


Problem

Attempts to record an IBM Rational Robot script on Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 2008 and Windows 2008 R2 result in an empty script.

Symptom

Between Sub Main and End Sub you see no SQABasic code. Verification points recording might yield code, but mouse and keybord actions do not.

You verified that your Rational Robot version does support your operating system.

Cause

The User Account Control (UAC) prevents you from recording.

Environment

This information only applies to Windows Vista, Windows 7 and other Windows with UAC.

Tip:

An easy way to change the UAC is the following method,

  1. Open the Windows Control Panel.

  2. In the field Search Control Panel, type UAC. Then follow the link.

  3. Disable UAC or set it to the lowest level.
