Preventive Service Planning
Abstract
This document answers the frequently asked question "What IBM Spectrum Protect product version is recommended?"
Content
Tip: The product now known as IBM Spectrum Protect™ was named IBM Tivoli® Storage Manager in releases earlier than Version 7.1.3. To learn more about the rebranding transition, see technote 1963634.
Recommendations
- Apply the latest fix pack, unless an interim fix is needed.
- Apply an interim fix only if it includes a needed fix for which no circumvention is available.
An interim fix should be applied only if it includes a required fix that is not available in the latest fix pack, and cannot use a work-around or wait until the next fix pack. Interim fixes receive much less testing than fix packs, so they are more risky to install and use in production. It is recommended to first test any interim fix on a test system before you implement it on a production system.
- Same level roll-out
If you must roll out the same level to all machines, use the latest needed interim fix. However, such a strategy is strongly discouraged. Apply interim fixes only to machines that require the interim fix. The latest fix pack should be applied to those machines that do not require an interim fix.
