IBM Support

Receiving a timeout failure when issuing a packet trace command.

Troubleshooting

Problem

Customer issues a packet trace command and gets: FKX984I TIMEOUT RECEIVED FROM SNMP REQUEST - FROM PANEL FKXK2A01 | B012 - Timeout: No Response from udp:xx.xx.xxx.xx:xxx

Resolving The Problem

Had the customer turn on RXTRACE entry/exit tracing and we saw
FKXESNMP ENTRY BULKWALK -c **** -ObestQ -v2c -msgs xx.xx.xxx.xx ifName
which indicates that NetView is attempting to run an SNMP command on that TCPIP stack but the stack is not up. The customer is not running discovery tower and had the stack information hardcoded in CNMPOLCY with a TCP390 statement. The IP addr specified contained a typo. Once the IP addr was corrected, the packet trace command worked successfully.
