Resolving The Problem
This document lists reasons why a BRMS-enrolled volume will be marked in error (*ERR) status.
If any of the following messages are encountered to media enrolled in BRMS, the volume can be marked in error (*ERR):
On some of these errors, if the volume ID is not posted in the message, BRMS cannot mark the volume in error.
Notes:
If any of the following messages are encountered to media enrolled in BRMS, the volume can be marked in error (*ERR):
CPA4022 | Error while reading labels on device &3. |
CPA4023 | Volume &4 damaged for file sequence &40. |
CPA4054 | Error while reading labels on device &3. |
CPA4060 | Device &4 cannot process loaded volume. |
CPA4282 | Device &4 cannot process loaded volume. |
CPA67A0 | Volume ID does not match cartridge ID. |
CPF400F | Media error while writing to volume &5 on device &4. (The threshold for errors has been reached.) |
CPF4108 | Media error on volume &8 device &4. |
CPF4119 | Device &4 cannot process loaded volume. |
CPF41B1 | Data overwrite not allowed. (This happens when trying to overwrite WORM data.) |
CPF4588 | Device &4 cannot process loaded volume. |
CPF4569 | Media error on volume &8 on device &4. |
CPF511E | Labels not found while processing file. |
CPF5233 | Device &4 cannot process loaded volume. |
CPF5349 | Media error on volume &8 on device &4. |
CPF6702 | Error processing volume on device &1. |
CPF6772 | Volume on device &1 cannot be processed. |
CPF4290 | Labels not found while processing file. |
CPI401A | Volume ID does not match cartridge ID. |
On some of these errors, if the volume ID is not posted in the message, BRMS cannot mark the volume in error.
Notes:
1. | After a volume is marked in *ERR, it can be reset only by removing the volume, then adding the volume back into the BRMS inventory by using the ADDMLMBRM command. Normally, the volume can be initialized and reused. However, if it continues to be marked in error, the volume should be discarded and replaced. |
2. | If an active volume is marked in *ERR, an attempt to remove it will fail with: BRM1491 - Message . . . . : Volume 284AAO not removed.
|
3. | Volumes with active data on them may still be used to restore from while in *ERR; however if they have expired, the actions in Note 1 must be followed. |
4. | At 7.1 the *ERR status can be removed by using option 9=Remove volume error status in WRKMEDBRM. The volume will be changed to *INZ status. |
