IBM Netfinity for Ready-To-Run R/3 A Technical Overview

"Ready-to-Run R/3" is an R/3 System solution that packages a pre-installed, pre-configured R/3 System with a complete hardware and software infrastructure. All that you have to do is unpack the Ready-to-Run R/3 hardware, connect it, and start working with R/3.

Pre-sized, pre-installed, pre-configured: Ready-to-Run R/3 simplifies the technical planning that goes along with introducing the powerful R/3 System. With Ready-to-Run R/3 there is no need to worry about how the central servers or the network should be sized, how you should implement database backups, or how you can distribute SAP's front-end software to
your user PCs.

The pre-installation and pre-configuration of Ready-to-Run R/3 include installation of the operating system, the database, and the R/3 System, as well as full operating system and network configuration and R/3 Basis customizing.

This pre-configuration takes advantage of the knowledge of experienced R/3 consultants and developers and of the expertise of SAP's hardware partners. There are also detailed guidelines to help you adjust your configuration should that be necessary in your computing environment.

The Basis customizing in Ready-to-Run R/3 is coordinated with SAP's AcceleratedSAP (ASAP) offering for implementing R/3. All of the Basis customizing steps in ASAP have already been completed for you in Ready-to-Run R/3.

A broad range of models: Ready-to-Run R/3 is offered in a series of "compact packages" for 25, 50, or 100 users and in a series of "growth packages" for 100, 150, or 200 users. There's a wide palette of hardware and software platforms to choose from.

All models come with the infrastructure that you need for intensive production use of the R/3 System. Ready-to-Run R/3 comes with two R/3 Systems that are pre-configured to form a "two-system infrastructure." One R/3 System is for production use and runs on powerful servers that are dimensioned to meet your throughput and performance requirements. The second, smaller R/3 System is for development and for installing and testing software upgrades.

You can customize, develop programs, upgrade your R/3 or system software in the Test System without affecting your production operation. The path for transporting changes from the Test System into the Production System is pre-configured as part of the two-system infrastructure.

Easy administration: Running your R/3 Systems safely does not necessarily mean that you need to attend training or read thick manuals. "Ready-to-Run R/3" includes an easy-to-use System Administration Assistant that tells you everything that you need to do to keep your system in trim. The Assistant includes checklists for the system administration tasks that you need to perform on a daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly basis, and you can launch many of the functions that you need to use right from the Assistant.

The support and information products that come with Ready-to-Run R/3 also include the R/3 Basis Knowledge Products, a set of multimedia CDs which let you deepen your knowledge of R/3 system administration and access R/3's Basis reference information.
