Problem

Symptom
ORA-28500: connection from ORACLE to a non-Oracle system returned this message: [Generic Connectivity Using ODBC][unixODBC]Connection is read-only, only select statements are allowed. (SQL State: S1000; SQL Code: 2)
Resolving The Problem
This issue can be resolved by changing the ODBC setting property on the client machine to ReadOnly= false.
- On Windows systems, you access the ODBC settings as follows: Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Data Sources (ODBC).
- On Linux/UNIX systems, you can open the ODBC.ini configuration file for editting and change the ReadOnly property value.
- On Linux systems, you can also use the UNIX ODBC Manager to make the change.
