RDM 4.40 failed to authenticate this console with the server - IBM Remote Deployment Manager

Problem

When using RDM 4.40, a user tries to open a RDM task in the console and receives the following pop-up error: Console Authentication Failed to authenticate this console with the server. Console version is 4.40 (build 33073) and server version is unknown.Also, during install, the following pop-up error may be seen while rembo.exe is attempting to start: rembo.exe - Application Error The instruction at "0x0060594c" referenced memory at "0x0c5cd9c8". The memory could not be "read".

Symptom

When using RDM 4.40, a user tries to open a RDM task in the console and receives the following pop-up error:

Console Authentication
Failed to authenticate this console with the server.
Console version is 4.40 (build 33073) and server version is unknown.

Also, during install, the following pop-up error may be seen while rembo.exe is attempting to start:

rembo.exe - Application Error
The instruction at "0x0060594c" referenced memory at "0x0c5cd9c8".
The memory could not be "read".
Affected configurations

This tip is not hardware specific.

This tip is not option specific.

The system is configured with at least one of the following:

  • IBM Remote Deployment Manager (RDM) 4.40

Note: This does not imply that the network operating system will work under all combinations of hardware and software.

Solution

This issue will be resolved in RDM 4.40.1. The target date is scheduled for release in Fourth Quarter 2007 via APAR IC54126.

Workaround

Perform the following steps on the RDM server:

  1. Net stop remboserver.
  2. Open C :\Program Files\IBM\RDM\EE_Files\global\rad\radb.ini and swap the values of ODBC_Username and ODBC_Password.
  3. In the same folder, open config csv . In the second line (semicolon separated), after the derby database URL, swap the next two elements.
  4. Reboot the RDM server.
  5. Launch C :\Program Files\IBM\RDM\local\env\mkimages.bat and wait for the CMD prompt window to close.

Additional information

If the user ID and password used to install RDM are the same, then this issue can happen.
