Abstract

This document describes how to download and install refresh pack 8.1.1 for IBM® Rational® Performance Tester (RPT) version 8.1 on Microsoft® Windows® and Linux® operating systems.

  • Usability improvements have been made for manual data correlation.
  • You can see a global view of all data correlations in a test.
  • You can generate multiple HTTP tests from a single recording session.
  • You can see error messages from virtual users in real time while running tests and schedules.
  • You can analyze and compare stage results in real time while a schedule runs.
  • You can create executive summary documents that incorporate selected report data and graphics.
  • You can export the test log to a text file.
  • You can automatically export results in full CSV format when you run tests from the command line.
  • Measurement of net server time for transactions is now supported, so that you can isolate the portion of a transaction's elapsed time due to the server and network, excluding think time.
  • HTTP page response times are corrected for increased accuracy by using advanced techniques to exclude processing overhead not related to the server under test.
  • A high resolution timer is available. If you use the high resolution timer, all measurements are precise to 1 millisecond.
  • You can collect resource monitoring data from DB2, Oracle WebLogic, and SAP NetWeaver.
  • New Citrix testing features:
    • You can debug a Citrix test while it runs by setting breakpoints and stopping and starting a test manually.
    • You can view response times for the virtual users that did not encounter synchronization failures.
    • Usability improvements have been made to the response time table.
    • You can split Citrix tests.
  • New SAP testing features:
    • You can record an SAP test from an open SAPGUI session, from an SAP shortcut file, or from a SAPGUI transaction launched from SAP Portal.
  • New SIP testing features:
    • The sips scheme is supported.
  • New SOA testing features:
    • You can split SOA tests.
    • Usability improvements to HTTP transport configuration have been made, including improvements to keystore management and to the display of HTTP information.
    • The JMS and MQ transports now support multiple returns.
    • Web Services Security 1.1 EncryptedKey and Thumbprint references are supported.
  • New socket testing features:
    • Content verification points are now supported for the socket protocol.

Prerequisites

Before you can install this fix pack, you must update your Installation Manager to version 1.3.1. Whenever you use Installation Manager to update an installed package, it automatically updates itself if necessary.

Installation Instructions

A previous version of IBM Rational Performance Tester, Version 8.1 must already be installed on your system.
Automatic Update You should install the RPT 8.1.1 update using the Update wizard in the IBM Installation Manager.

  1. Start the IBM Installation Manager.
  2. Click Update.
Manual Update It is also possible to download the update and install it locally.
  1. Download the RPT 8.1.1 update ZIP files. Refer to the Download Package table below for the URLs.
  2. Extract the files to a temporary directory with a directory structure resembling:
    • rpt_update\disk1
    • rpt_update\disk2
    The base directories must be named disk1, disk2, etc.
  3. Start the IBM Installation Manager.
  4. Open File>Preferences ...
  5. Click Add Repository.
  6. Enter the directory where disk1 resides according to the following example: ...\rpt_update\disk1\diskTag.inf
  7. Click OK.
  8. Click Apply.
  9. Click OK to close the Preferences window.
  10. From the main Installation Manager window, click Update.
