Rational Performance Tester Synchronous I/O mode

Troubleshooting

Problem

This technote describes the Synchronous I/O mode in IBM® Rational® Performance Tester (RPT).

Symptom

Rational Performance Tester 7.0.1 includes a new Synchronous I/O (SIO) mode in addition to the default Non-blocking I/O (NIO) mode. When virtual users are waiting long times for the server to respond, NIO mode allows Java™ to consolidate the management of selectors for many connections. In many cases, though, the processor overhead of using Java NIO on Windows is significant. SIO mode can increase the processor efficiency of some load tests that use HTTP. Customers with concerns about processor efficiency can experiment with SIO to evaluate its potential benefits.
