To install this ifix, Rational License Key Server 8.1.3 must be installed. For information about Rational License Key Server 8.1.3 release, see the 8.1.3 Release Notes.

The installation of IBM Rational License Key Server requires IBM Installation Manager 1.5.2 to be installed.
Note: You do not have to download Installation Manager separately. It is included with the fix pack available on the Fix Central web site.

Installation Instructions

To install the Rational License Key Server ifix:

  1. Download the file.

  2. Extract the compressed files to an appropriate directory.

  3. Add the fix pack repository location in Installation Manager as follows:
    1. Launch IBM Installation Manager.
    2. Click File > Preferences > Repositories.
    3. Click Add Repository.
    4. Browse to or enter the file path to the repository.config file.
      The repository.config file is located in the sub-directory "ifix" where you extracted the compressed files.

  4. Stop the Rational License Key Server before installing the iFix. Make sure the following processes are not running - lmgrd, lmutil, lmtools and ibmratl.

  5. On the main page of Installation Manager, click Update.

  6. Follow the instructions to install the ifix.

  7. Start the Rational License Key Server.

How critical is this fix?

Impact Assessment
Impact Description

This Interim Fix resolves a possible security vulnerability that is reported in the FlexNet Publisher lmgrd license server manager as well as vendor daemons. There have been no reported exploits of this possible vulnerability, and to date it has not been reported by FlexNetSoftware users. Considering that IBM is not aware of any exploitation that has occurred, and that there is no exploitation code available, the likelihood of an attack is not as high as the CVSS score would indicate. IBM recommends to apply the iFix for RLKS 8.1.3 as soon as practical.

This vulnerability impacts the following releases:

  • IBM Rational License Key Server 8.1.3, 8.1.2, 8.1.1, and 8.0
  • Rational License Server v7.x
  • Telelogic License Server 2.0

If you are using version 8.0, 7.x or 2.0, you should migrate to RLKS 8.1.3 and apply the iFix. If you wish to remain at your current version, apply the mitigation action described in the mitigation document and migrate to RLKS 8.1.3 as soon as practical.
