Rational Developer for i 9.9 Installation Steps

Steps

It is assumed that you have downloaded the install image IBM_Rational_Developer_for_i.zip and the activation kit RDi_9.9_RPGCOBOLTools_AU_Lic_Act_Kit_P2.zip and placed them in some known location. Here are some steps that will give you a good install and license every time.

Note1: If the downloaded files are not named as above and are something like *_MP_ML.zip then you will need to pull the necessary .zip files from them to your PC disk.

Note2: Do not run as Run as Administrator or with an elevated profile.

1. Create directory C:\IBM
2. Right-click on the file IBM_Rational_Developer_for_i.zip and take the action Extract All and select C:\IBM as the destination folder. When this completes you will have an image with RDi.exe located in "C:\IBM\IBM Rational Developer for i"
3. Double click on the RDI.exe to start RDi
4. Click on menu Help>Manage Licenses
5. Click Apply License
6. Select "Disable floating license enforcement"
7. Click OK
8. Click Done
9. Click on Help -> Install New Software...
10. UN-select the checkbox "Contact all update sites ..."
11. Click the Add button
12. Click the Archive button
13. Navigate to and select the activation kit file RDi_9.9_RPGCOBOLTools_AU_Lic_Act_Kit_P2.zip
14. Click Add
15. Select the checkbox for "IBM RPGTools Version 9.9 Permanent Activation Kit"
16. Click Next
17. Click Finish
18. Click the "Restart Now"
19. RDi will restart, when it does, continue
20. Go to menu Help>Check for updates
21. This will take a while and if it is the first time then you will have to trust the unsigned .jar files. You probably don’t want to do much in RDi while the download and update is happening just to avoid any possible issues.
22. When asked, let RDi restart
