Rational ClearCase SCM Adapter (For Eclipse), Version

The IBM Rational ClearCase SCM Adapter adds ClearCase functionality to the Eclipse workbench.

Download Description

The Rational ClearCase SCM Adapter is designed to allow Eclipse users to have access to ClearCase functionality in the Eclipse workbench. It is officially supported on Eclipse versions 3.2.2 to 3.7.2, Eclipse versions 4.2.2 and 4.3 and all Rational ClearCase versions later than 7.1.x. It will function with earlier versions of ClearCase but it is not officially supported for the earlier releases.

This version (7.6.2) supersedes all 7.6.x/7.5.x versions and includes support for the RTC/ClearCase Bridge

This plugin requires ClearCase to be installed on the system.

  1. The ClearTeam Explorer (CTE) is now the preferred ClearCase integration with Eclipse. See the IBM support article, About Rational ClearCase SCM Adapter in Rational ClearCase version 8.0 (and later).
  2. The SCM adapter is not compatible with Eclipse Luna and install will fail.
  3. For information about using the SCM Adapter on 64-bit systems, see the IBM support article
About SCM Adapter support on 64-bit operating systems.

Installation Instructions

For Eclipse versions 3.2.2 to 3.3.x inclusive:

  1. Download the zip file appropriate for your operating system. Extract the contents of the file to a directory in your file system.
  2. In Eclipse, select Help > Software Updates > Manage Configuration. In the Product Configuration window, click the "Add an Extension Location" link in the Eclipse platform pane.
  3. The Browse for Folder dialog prompts you to choose an extension location, expand the My Computer entry and navigate to the directory that contains the contents of the extracted zip file. Expand the Eclipse folder and click "OK".
  4. The Install/Update dialog prompts you to restart the workbench. Click "Yes".
  5. In the Eclipse window, click Window > Customize Perspective.
  6. In the Customize Perspective dialog box, click the Commands tab, ensure that the ClearCase option under the Available command groups column is checked, and click "OK".

Note: This installation procedure will NOT disable previous versions of the ClearCase SCM Adapter feature. You MUST disable the earlier versioned features manually in the Manage Configuration sheet in order to ensure proper functionality.

Following this procedure, the ClearCase menu option appears in the main menu of your Eclipse window, the ClearCase icons appear, and the installation of the ClearCase SCM Adapter is complete.

For Eclipse versions 3.4.x and later (see note 3):
  1. Download the zip file appropriate for your operating system. Extract the contents of the file to a directory in your file system.
  2. Configure the Eclipse p2 updater with the appropriate update site url:
    - For Eclipse 3.4.x Open the p2 eclipse updater (Help > Software Updates...) and choose the "Available Software" tab, then press the "Add Site..." button.
    - For Eclipse 3.5.x: Open the p2 eclipse updater (Help > Install New Software...) click "Add...".
  3. In the dialog popup, click the button marked "Local...".
  4. Navigate to the location where you unpacked the zip file, and select the "eclipse" folder, and click "OK".
  5. Click "OK" again. (See note 2 below for more information)
  6. Select the available packages and click "Finish".

  1. For Eclipse on Solaris systems, note that the Linux version of the Rational ClearCase SCM Adapter and the Solaris version are the same. The Linux version of the Rational ClearCase SCM Adapter is designed to install into Solaris based versions of Eclipse.
  2. When installing into Eclipse 3.4.x and later, you may need to uncheck "Group items by category" to see the entries for installation. For SCM Adapter there is no need to check anything other than "Rational ClearCase SCM Adapter" as the other entry (Rational ClearCase Remote Client for Eclipse Import) is a subfeature of the SCM Adapter and will automatically be included.
  3. You can also install into eclipse 3.4.x and later by enabling the "classic updater" from within the eclipse preferences (window->preferences->general->capabilities) and use the eclipse 3.2.2 - 3.3.x instructions, however future updates can only be installed via the classic update mechanism.
  4. The precise directions for installation in Eclipse versions beyond 3.7.2 may vary slightly. In eclipse 4.2.2 and later, the "classic" mechanism is not available.

Alternative installation Mechanism:

It is also possible to install the plugin using the eclipse update mechanism. The eclipse update URLs needed are as follows:
Use these URLs in the Eclipse updater wizard. The update wizard is available via the Help > Install New Software (Eclipse 3.4 and later) or through Help > Software Updates > Find And Install (Eclipse 3.2.x/3.3.x). Additional information is available in the Eclipse on-line help.

Download Package

Below are links to the SCM Adapter zip files for Windows and LINUX/Solaris . These are packaged as a "local" update site. Bear in mind that the sizes given are approximate. The Solaris plugin is marked as "linux" for historical reasons. It will install properly on Solaris systems. Note that download sizes are *approximate*!
