About this release
Rational Business Developer version 8.0.1 includes the following enhancements:
Services and deployment
- EGL-generated Java code can now access non-EGL REST services and EGL REST-RPC services.
- You can now access an EGL service from your Rich UI application. This dedicated service is deployed on the application server, along with the EGL Rich UI proxy that is used for remote service access.
- You can use a new wizard to create Record parts from JSON, XML, or XML schema content.
- EGL now provides a technology that is equivalent to a stateful web service, which is logic that retains values from one invocation to the next.
- You can generate code and then push the output to different deployment targets by making a simple change, rather than changing build descriptor options and regenerating all the output.
- Dojo widgets can be included in the EGL Rich UI projects
- Two new EGL widgets: DataGrid and GridLayout
- New mechanism for form processing
- New default rendering engine for the Rich UI editor, Mozilla XULRunner
- New organization of the palette for the Design view, combining EGL and Dojo widgets within categories
- Ability to get and set the title and visual theme for a web page
- You can specify the following new conditions:
- Conditions for breakpoints
- Global conditions that are evaluated at every line
- You can use watch expressions to monitor the value of variables and expressions without changing source code.
- You can now access VSAM files from the debugger using TCP/IP.
Rich UI Handler Form Manager
- Extended support is now available for managing forms in a Rich UI Handler as part of the EGL Model-view-Controller (MVC) capability.
EGL Data view
- When you edit a Rich UI Handler, the EGL Data view is available as a tab next to the Outline and Properties views. This view shows the data fields in the Handler. You can drag a data field from the EGL Data view to the EGL Rich UI editor, which launches the new Insert Widget wizard. Use this wizard to associate a widget with the data field.
- The directory structure within an EGL project has changed. With version 8.0, EGL places generated Java code into the new EGLGen/JavaSource directory at the top level of the project directory structure.
For Rich UI projects, you no longer use a generation mode preference to determine whether you are generating for debug or for runtime use. Instead, both types of code are generated automatically into the EGLGen/JavaScript/Debug and EGLGen/JavaScript/Target directories.
If you keep the version 7 directory structure, the project will work normally in version 8. If you update the directory structure to the new version 8 structure, you can no longer use the project in version 7.
- You can now specify different default build descriptors for different generation targets within the same project. Default build descriptors are available for debug and target platform build descriptor categories.
Text reports for COBOL
- You can now create text reports for programs that you generate for COBOL.
