Rational Application Developer and Rational Software Architect Support for Windows 7 and Windows 2008 R2

Question & Answer

Question

Do IBM Rational Application Developer and IBM Rational Software Architect support Microsoft Windows 7 and Microsoft Windows 2008 R2?

Answer

The following IBM Rational Software products now support Windows 7 and Windows 2008 R2:

  • Rational Application Developer for WebSphere Software
  • Rational Software Architect for WebSphere Software
  • Rational Software Architect Standard Edition
  • Rational Software Modeler
  • Rational Modeling Extension for Microsoft .NET

Not all components shipped as part of Rational Application Developer or Rational Software Architect in the 7.5.5 release will be declaring their Windows 7 and Windows 2008 R2 support at the time of the Rational Application Developer and Rational Software Architect 7.5.5 release. This document outlines those components and functions that are not officially supported.

This document also highlights known issues discovered that are specific to Windows 7 and Windows 2008 R2 while running the products listed above.

Unsupported Components

WebSphere Application Server v6.0.2.39 Test environment

The WebSphere Application Server v6.0 Test environment will not be supported. WebSphere does not plan on adding this support in future releases. For more details reference the following WebSphere technote:

      http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=180&uid=swg27009288

As a result, all tooling specific to this level of WebSphere Application Server (publishing, creating profiles) is also unsupported on these platforms.

WebSphere Application Server v6.1.0.27 Test environment or earlier

The WebSphere Application Server v6.1 Test environment is not supported when using any version at or below v6.1.0.27.

WebSphere did add Windows 7 support beginning with WebSphere Application Server v6.1.0.29. As a result, all tooling specific to these levels of WebSphere Application Server (publishing, creating profiles) will follow the same support statement as that of the application server. More details on the WebSphere v6.1 platform support on Windows can be found here:

      http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg27007663

    WebSphere J2C adapters v6.2.x and v7

WebSphere adapters currently are not supported on these platforms.

RTC 1.0 client (used with Team Debug)

Rational Team Concert 1.0 client will not be supported on these platforms

Known issues

Local Help updater prompts for local help install each time workspace is started even after help is installed

Although not a Windows 7 specific issue, this issue can easily get exposed by users running on the new Windows platforms and did not occur on Windows XP. When a user first launches a product configured for Local Help, they will be prompted to download the local help. If the help is installed by a non-administrator on Windows 7/Windows 2008 R2, the user will be prompted each time the product is started, even though help has been installed. Details of the issue and a workaround can be found in the main technote for this issue:
