 The system is any of the following IBM eserver xSeries:

  • IBM xSeries 340
  • IBM xSeries 240
  • IBM xSeries 230

The system is any of the following IBM Netfinity servers:

  • Netfinity 8500R server, type 8681, any model
  • Netfinity 7600 server, type 8665, any model
  • Netfinity 7100 server, type 8666, any model
  • Netfinity 7000-M10 server, type 8680, any model
  • Netfinity 7000 server, type 8651, any model
  • Netfinity 6000R server, type 8682, any model
  • Netfinity 5600 server, type 8664, any model
  • Netfinity 5500-M20 server, type 8662, any model
  • Netfinity 5500-M10 server, type 8661, any model
  • Netfinity 5500 server, type 8660, any model
  • Netfinity 5100 server, type 8658, any model
  • Netfinity 5000 server, type 8659, any model
  • Netfinity 4500R server, type 8656, any model
  • Netfinity 4000R server, type 8652, any model

The system is the following IBM PC Server:

  • PC Server 325, type 8639, any model

Details
Netfinity servers are tested with the IBM Netfinity racks.

NOTE: If you plan to use a rack that is not an IBM Netfinity rack, you must ensure that the rack provides adequate ventilation to the server. To make sure that you maintain proper ventilation, follow these guidelines when you use a rack that is not an IBM rack:

  1. Make sure the front and rear rack doors are at least 50% to 60% uniformly vented or opened.
  2. Maintain a minimum distance of 2.5 inches (64mm) between the server front bezel and the rack front door.
  3. Maintain a maximum of 0.5 inch (13mm) of clearance between the rack mounting rails and the rack side covers.
  4. Arrange the racks (if you have multiple rows of racks) so that the rows will face front-to-front or back to back. Do not place the rows so that the front of the row faces the back of the next row.
  5. Arrange the rows of the racks so that any air conditioning vents in the room will face the front of the racks.
  6. Install the blank filler panels in front of all the empty spaces in your rack to provide adequate cooling.

Installing the Netfinity 4000R in a rack
 NOTE: The Netfinity 4000R is designed as a horizontally rack-mounted server only.

When you install your Netfinity 4000R server in a rack, make sure you follow the instructions in your User's handbook for detailed installation instructions.
