QuickGuide #12: TruePath Creation & Interpretation
Answer
TruePath Creation & Interpretation
TruePath is a tool for analyzing how visitors move through a defined process or path on your website. This allows you to measure the success of visitors navigating through online processes and help identify problem areas in key processes such as checkout registration and online applications. A TruePath is created by using TruePath Builder within the IBM Digital Analytics Tools Browser Plugin and can be analysed within the Paths section of Digital Analytics.
Creating a TruePath:
Pre-requisite:??Install the IBM Digital Analytics Browser Plugin (Digital Analytics > Manage > Installations > Tools Browser Plugin)Open TruePath Builder
-
Navigate to your website
-
Activate the Plugin on your Browser? ?
-
Select ?TruePath Builder? within the Plug in
-
Create TruePath
-
Navigate to the Page you wish to add as a step in your Path. The Page ID will load.
-
Drag and drop the Page ID into the Path layout area and edit TruePath Step Definition window:
-
Specify Page ID to be Is (exact match) Starts with Ends with Contains or Wildcard
-
Optionally group pages together in a single step by clicking the + symbol e.g. grouping all pages containing ?shirts? together as a single step.
-
-
Repeat for all steps in your path and click ?Next?
-
-
Optionally choose to back process (make data available from a historical date) by selecting the appropriate radio button 7142130 60 or 90 days. Your TruePath will start processing immediately and once completed will display data for the dates chosen for back processing. ?If ?None? is selected your report will start processing overnight and data will be available next day onwards.
Key Metric Definitions:
-
Sessions on this Step: The total number of sessions that reached the selected step in the TruePath during the selected time period.
-
Sessions Departing TruePath: The number of sessions that did not proceed to the next step in the path out of all sessions that successfully reached the selected step.
-
Sessions Continuing:? The total number of sessions that proceeded to the next required step or the next optional step
-
Sessions Continuing Directly: The number of sessions that proceeded directly to the next step out of all sessions that successfully reached the selected step in the path.
Worked Example & Interpretation:
Step 1 "Cart"
-
129902 (Sessions on this Step) reached Step 1. From here 60827 (Sessions Departing TruePath) left the TruePath whilst 69075 (Sessions Continuing) continued to the next step
-
[Sessions on this Step = Sessions Departing TruePath + Sessions Continuing]
-
-
Out of the 69075 (Sessions Continuing)41749 (Sessions Continuing Directly) navigated directly to the next step in the path (i.e. without navigating to another page before reaching the next step). ?Sessions Continuing Directly? is a subgroup of ?Sessions Continuing?.
