QuickGuide #01: Explore Attributes
Answer
Explore Attributes
Explore Attributes allow for the collection of supplementary data that is important for your business in addition to the data that is collected in the standard tags. This data can then be reported on within the Explore interface.
Key Details:
o?? ?Up to 50 attributes can be collected in each of the tags that support attribute collection?
o?? ?Attribute collection does not require a new tag; they ?piggyback? on your standard tags.
o?? ?Collecting attributes therefore has no impact on server call volume.
o?? ?The following tag types support attributes collection (Max length: 256 characters per attribute)
??? ?Product View (e.g. Colour Size Brand)
??? ?Shop Action (e.g. ?Colour Size Brand)
??? ?Order (e.g. Payment Method Closest Store Selected Delivery Method Discount Code)
??? ?Conversion Event (e.g. ?Feedback Score? where the Event being tracked is Chat Service)
??? ?Element (e.g. Facet navigation values)
??? ?Registration (e.g. Name Surname Income Age)
??? ?Marketing Attributes (e.g. Marketing spend Campaign go live date)
Worked Example:?
If your business wanted to collect data on the ?Payment Method? selected when completing an order you could collect ?Payment Method? as an Explore Attribute within the Order Tag. Follow these steps:?
1) Liaise and work with developers who will need to apply coding on the page where the order tag is fired. They will need to ensure that the ?Payment Method? value is captured within the Order tag based on the customer?s selection during the checkout process.
2) Once the developers can confirm that the correct code has been applied to collect the Payment method data an Administrator for the Client ID will need to know exactly which of the 50 available Order Tag attribute fields has been reserved to collect this data?
[E.g. Developer confirms Attribute field "10" within the Order Tag is collecting Payment Method data]
3) The Administrator will be required to assign a descriptive Alias to this new attribute field. This essentially provides a header for the new data and will make the data available within Explore reporting.
To apply the alias navigate to ?Explore attributes? within the Admin console and complete the details.?
[E.g. Field: Order/Transaction Attribute Field 10 | Alias: ?Payment Method?]?
Reporting:?
You can now create Explore reports using the newly collected ?Payment Method? data. It will only be possible to report in Explore going forward after the attribute has been aliased.
E.g. you can now create a Flat list report with the display columns and metrics as shown below?
Business Value on ?Payment Method? Attribute Collection:
The report above can provide real business insight into the popularity of each of the payment methods available on your website; offering validation on exactly which methods of payment are preferred among your customer base. Analysis overtime can facilitate business decision making on the range of methods that should be made available and which methods should continue to be offered / eliminated.
