The Quick Guide to Installing Linux

Body

Got a great question this morning..

On a regular basis, we have new customers and partners trying out Linux on Power in an LPAR on a system.    From our perspective in the development teams, many local teams simply handle those interactions.    But this morning we got copied on a great point of "so help me find the easy instructions!"   In this case, this was for a Red Hat installation.

Naturally, knowing where to look is the key aspect of working around the web, so to capture ideas and quick links, I'll put some links here. We'll need better tagging to get this picked up easier by the web search engines.

On the IBM InfoCenter web pages,

PowerLinux installation flow chart

Use this flow chart to navigate installation topics for a Power Systems™ server.

From the Red Hat side,

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 Installation Guide

Installing Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.5 for all architectures

From the SUSE side, SLES docs are here:

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP3

An install guide is there. While the guide mentions the VNC mode of the installer, they do not stress the need to use them for Power.

This section of InfoCenter is helpful:
