Problem
Attempts to open a view or run a query in IBM Rational Requirements Composer (RRC) results in an error "The list of artifacts cannot be displayed".
Symptom
The full error message is as follows:
The list of artifacts cannot be displayed.

ID CRRRW7611W The server was unable to generate the list of artifacts in a reasonable period of time. Try making the filter more specific. For example, specify which artifact types to display, and try to open the list again.
Cause
The query is taking longer to run than the query client time-out setting.
Environment
In version 4.0 the default is 10000. In version 4.0.1 it was increased to 30000. The value is in milliseconds.
Resolving The Problem
Increase the query client time-out to resolve the problem or restructure the query as the error message suggests.
Note: Changing this value to a larger value can have performance impacts on the server as it will allow longer running queries. There are also other possible causes for this error such as problems with the database server. Look at the database server logs and the jts and rm logs to verify if there are errors causing the query to run longer then expected.
To change the setting permanently (requires a restart):
- The default location for the fronting.properties file is in <install_location>\JazzTeamServer\server\conf\rm. Take a backup of this file.
- Locate the property com.ibm.rdm.fronting.server.query.client.timeout and increase the value. The value is in milliseconds. Save the file.
- Restart the server for the change to take effect.
To change the setting until the next server restart:.
- Go to the RRC administration page. https://<server>:<port>/rm/rmadmin
- In the Advanced Properties page locate the property com.ibm.rdm.fronting.server.query.client.timeout and increase the value. The value is in milliseconds.
