QNTC Path and Server Name Considerations

Troubleshooting

Problem

Specific considerations for defining path names in the QNTC File System are defined in this document.

Resolving The Problem

Path Names in the QNTC File System

When defining path names in the QNTC File System, you should consider the following:
o The path name must begin with a slash, and it can be up to 255 characters long.
o Case is preserved in path names.
o The path consists of the file system name, the server name, the sharename, the directory and sub-directory names, and the object name. Path names have the following form:

/QNTC/Servername/Sharename/Directory/ . . . /Object

Note: QNTC is a required part of the path name.
o The server name must be the server system's registered NetBIOS computer name or the server's TCP/IP address. Registered NetBIOS names must be 15 characters or less. The NetBIOS name of the server can be determined by typing the command nbtstat -n from a command prompt.
o The sharename can be up to 12 characters long.
o After the sharename, each component of the path name can be up to 127 characters long.
o Within QNTC, 130 levels of hierarchy are generally available. If all components of the path name are included as hierarchy levels, the directory hierarchy can be as many as 132 levels deep.
