Troubleshooting
Problem
The NetXtreme II devices will fail to flash Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) during system Power On Self Test (POST) if the Advanced Settings Utility (ASU) sets the 'BlinkLED' setting to a non-zero value. ASU will respond that the command to set the BlinkLED setting was successful. However, upon system restart, the LEDs of the adapter will not flash.

Symptom
The NetXtreme II devices will fail to flash Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) during system Power On Self Test (POST) if the Advanced Settings Utility (ASU) sets the 'BlinkLED' setting to a non-zero value.
ASU will respond that the command to set the BlinkLED setting was successful. However, upon system restart, the LEDs of the adapter will not flash.
Affected configurations
The system can be any of the following IBM servers:
- System x3750 M4, type 8752, any model
- System x3850 X6, type 3837 (4-socket, 3 year warranty), any model
- System x3850 X6, type 3839 (4-socket, 4 year warranty), any model
- System x3950 X6, type 3837 (8-socket, 3 year warranty), any model
- System x3950 X6, type 3839 (8-socket, 4 year warranty), any model
The system is configured with at least one of the following:
- Advanced Settings Utility, any version
The system is configured with one or more of the following IBM option part numbers:
- Broadcom 2x10 Gigabit Ethernet SFP+ Embedded Adapter for IBM System x, option part number 44T1360
- Broadcom 2x10 Gigabit Ethernet SFP+ Adapter for IBM System x, option part number 94Y5180
- Broadcom NetXtreme II Dual-Port 10 Gigabit Ethernet BaseT Adapter for IBM System x, option part number 44T1353
- Broadcom NetXtreme II ML2 Dual-Port 10 Gigabit Ethernet SFP+ for IBM System x, option part number 00D2028
- Broadcom NetXtreme II ML2 Dual-Port 10GbaseT for IBM System x, option part number 00D2026
- Broadcom Single Port 10 Gigabit Ethernet SFP+ Embedded Adapter for IBM System x, option part number 00D9700
The T7.10 level of firmware for the Broadcom NetXtreme II adapters is affected.
The system has the symptom described above.
Note: This does not imply that the network operating system will work under all combinations of hardware and software.

Solution
This fix was delivered in the NetXtreme II T7.12 firmware release.
Workaround
The user can blink the adapter's LEDs by setting a non-zero value (up to 15) to the adapter's Blink LED parameter in the system UEFI.
In UEFI, go to System Settings -> Network -> Adapter interface, and enter a non-zero value in the Blink LEDs field.
Additional information
The BlinkLEDs setting of the NetXtreme II adapter using ASU fails because the setting was not supported.
A NetXtreme II EFI driver fix has been developed by QLogic, and successfully blinks the LEDs using ASU. The fix will be included in the next NetXtreme II firmware release.
The workaround using UEFI allows the user to blink the LEDs until the next NetXtreme II firmware package is released.
