Application of this PTF may disable or render ineffective programs that
use system memory addresses not generated by the IBM translator,
including programs that circumvent control technology designed to limit
interactive capacity to purchased levels.  This PTF may be a prerequisite
for future PTFs.  By applying this PTF you authorize and agree to the
foregoing.

This PTF is subject to the terms of the 'IBM License Agreement for Machine
Code', the terms of which were provided in a printed document that was
delivered with the machine.

APAR Error Description / Circumvention

-----------------------------------------------
In certain circumstances, the telnet server may stop processing
new connection attempts. Already established sessions will
continue to work.
Vlog 0701 005A ( 0701005A ) is posted with
SEND_SESSIONIND_ENTERED
and client's connection information, including the Telnet device
type that has been determined by negotiations.

Netstat may show telnet connections in a CLOSED state.

Attempts to restart the telnet server have not been successful
in these cases. IPL is the only way to recover.

CORRECTION FOR APAR MA42978 :
-----------------------------
Certain Telnet negotiation data streams sequences may result in
attempting to select a device twice.  This may be due to poorly
implemented Telnet clients or random data sent as a Telnet data
stream that is being interpreted as negotiation data.
Negotiation data will be limited selection of a virtual device,
regardless of data stream order.

CIRCUMVENTION FOR APAR MA42978 :
--------------------------------
None.

DESCRIPTION OF PROBLEM FIXED FOR APAR MA42964 :
-----------------------------------------------
Errant telnet client activity caused a streams leak. Great
repetition of this activity over a short enough time period can
cause a system crash due to the static directory not able to be
expanded further.

CORRECTION FOR APAR MA42964 :
-----------------------------
Errent Telnet client activity will be detected and blocked.

CIRCUMVENTION FOR APAR MA42964 :
--------------------------------
None.

Activation Instructions

None.
