APAR Error Description / Circumvention
-----------------------------------------------
The IPv6 address selection algorithm is outdated based on
evolving IPv6 network usage. The address selection algorithm is
used when sorting multiple destination addresses to a preferred
order based on the type of address and during IPv6 source
address selection.
An interface to change the address selection policy table used
as part of the selection algorithm is also required.
CORRECTION FOR APAR MA42470 :
-----------------------------
The default IPv6 address selection algorithm will be updated
based on the current recommendation from the Internet
Engineering Task Force (IETF) in RFC 6724. The following changes
have been made to the algorithm policy table:
- Native IPv4 addresses have been given preference ahead of 6to4
IPv6 addresses (2002::/32).
- Teredo prefix (2001::/32) has been added with widely used
label and preference (below 6to4 IPv6 prefix).
- Unique Local Address prefix (fc00::/7) has been added below
native IPv6.
- Site local (fec0::/10) and 6bone testing prefixes (3ffe::/16)
have been added with lowest preference. Site local addresses are
deprecated and 6bone has been phased out.
The address selection policy table can be changed through a new
'IPADDRPOLICY' Advanced Analysis command available through
System Service Tools (STRSST).
To change the address selection policy table, use the following
steps:
From an IBM i command line, run the STRSST command.
Enter your service tools user ID and password.
Select option 1 (Start a service tool).
Select option 4 (Display/Alter/Dump).
Select option 1 (Display/Alter storage).
Select option 2 (Licensed Internal Code (LIC) data).
Select option 14 (Advanced analysis).
Select (1) the IPADDRPOLICY command.
Press F4 to display help for the options allowed.
RFC 6724, Default Address Selection for Internet Protocol
Version 6 (IPv6), provides additional help in understanding the
address policy table and its entries. It is available at
http://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/rfc6724/.
