APAR Error Description / Circumvention

-----------------------------------------------
When an IBM i server partition terminates in a manner that
prevents main storage from being recovered (such as an immediate
power off or restart from the HMC, a panel function 8 or
function 3, or a failed main storage dump), some client
partition data from write operations that were reported as
complete may be lost. Reads to these virtual disk locations will
return old data instead of the data that was written by the
client.

An IBM i client partition may terminate abnormally when the data
loss is detected (such as with SRCB6000305) or may log
VL1000DDDD entries in the Licensed Internal Code log along with
other abnormal entries such as Function Checks (VL0200xxxx).

CORRECTION FOR APAR MA40720 :
-----------------------------
The Licensed Internal Code will ensure that all data is written
to disk before returning a successful write response to the
client partition.

CIRCUMVENTION FOR APAR MA40720 :
--------------------------------
None.

Activation Instructions

None.
