Application of this PTF may disable or render ineffective programs that
use system memory addresses not generated by the IBM translator,
including programs that circumvent control technology designed to limit
interactive capacity to purchased levels. This PTF may be a prerequisite
for future PTFs. By applying this PTF you authorize and agree to the

delivered with the machine.

APAR Error Description / Circumvention

Additional diagnostic capability is needed to shorten the time
it takes to diagnose problems.
When a device is not responding to I/O requests it may take a
long time for a device to vary on or to allocate a resource to a
tape library. This may cause other devices to fail to vary on or
be allocated to a tape library because they are waiting for the
failed device.
CORRECTION FOR APAR MA38925 :

Added additional diagnostic capability.
Reduced the number of I/O requests allowed to time out before
giving up and failing the device. This should allow other
devices to be varied on or allocated to a tape library sooner.
