Troubleshooting
Problem
This issue occurs on the Chassis Management Module (CMM) web interface. The web path is Mgt Module Management, Properties, Date and time tab. If users enable the Enable Network Time Protocol (NTP) v3 Authentication and the NTP v3 Authentication key index is set to '0' and 'NTP v3,' when the authentication key '(M - MD5)' field is null and users click the Apply button, this error occurs: Error encountered while applying date and time changes and the NTP v3 authentication fields are not set.
Resolving The Problem

RETAIN tip: H206487
Symptom
This issue occurs on the Chassis Management Module (CMM) web interface. The web path is Select Mgt Module Management, Properties, Date and time tab.
If users enable the Enable Network Time Protocol (NTP) v3 Authentication and the NTP v3 Authentication key index is set to '0' and 'NTP v3,' when the authentication key '(M - MD5)' field is null and users click the Apply button, this error occurs:
| Error encountered while applying date and time changes and the NTP v3 authentication fields are not set. |
Affected configurations
The system may be any of the following IBM servers:
- Flex System Enterprise Chassis, type 7893, any model
- Flex System Enterprise Chassis, type 8721, any model
- Flex System Enterprise Chassis, type 8724, any model
The system is configured with one or more of the following IBM Options:
- Flex System Chassis Management Module, Option part number 68Y7029, any replacement part number (CRU)
This tip is not software specific.
The Build ID: 2PET10I firmware for the CMM is affected.
Solution
This behavior was fixed in CMM firmware version 1.40.0 Build ID: 2PET10K.

Workaround
Valid values should be used for both index and authentication key fields.
If the NTP v3 authentication check box is checked, users should provide the v3 index and the MD5 authentication string.
Index should be a positive number and not null and the MD5 string should not be null.
Messages that are displayed after the fix is included are:
| This is not a properly formatted
value. Index should be an integer greater than zero. NTP v3 Authentication key cannot be empty! |
The Command Line Interface (CLI) command to set the NTP v3 authentication method does have validation messages.
Use the following example command, to set index to '1' and the authentication string to 'string_key':
| env -T MM[number of primary MM] ntp -v3 1 string_key |
Additional information
Symptom occurs because the validation messages are missing, and the NTP v3 authentication parameters are not set.
CLI uses validation to ensure values are set for NTP v3 authentication parameters.
