Troubleshooting
Problem
This technote explains how to resolve a project name already exists error, that can occur when using IBM® Rational® TestManager (TM).
Symptom
When attempting to create a new project in Rational Administrator, the following error message is received: The Project name already exists, please enter a different name <OK> (taking into account than only one project with this name in Administrator exists).
Cause
At one time there was a Project with this name registered in the Rational Administrator. Most likely this Project was not properly deleted using the Rational Administrator delete function, but was deleted using Windows Explorer instead.
Resolving The Problem
The Project names registered in the Rational Administrator are stored in the Microsoft® Windows® Registry. To resolve the error message,
The Project name already exists, please enter a different name
modify the Registry.
Run regedt32 or regedit.exe and navigate to the following Registry keys:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Rational Software\Rational Administrator\Project List\DataList
HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Rational Software\Rational Administrator\ProjectList\DataList
Then, delete the entry for the duplicate name.
