                                                    i.     If requesting the Cumulative Package, select SF99VRM (where VRM is the version, release and modification level such as 730), then click Continue.

ii.     If requesting the Cumulative Package and Group PTFs, select SF99VRM, as well as the groups you want ordered. If all groups are desired for the specific release, then also select the  All PTF Groups Except Cumulative Package - SF99VR1), then click Continue.

iii.     If requesting individual Group PTFs, select the desired group option, then click Continue.

iv.     See Step 2 for Download Options.

e.      If ordering Individual fix IDs, mark the category, then type individual PTF IDs into the field, each ID separated by a comma or whitespace.

                                                    i.     Select the corresponding PTF from the list, then click Continue.

ii.     See Step 2 for Download Options.

2)     Download Options Menu:

a.      Download individual fixes directly to my system (requires Java)

                                                    i.     Make sure your system and PC both meet all requirements for connecting to your system.

1.      Enter the hostname or IP address and a profile name and password to log into your system for the download. If you have already logged into your system during this order, this step will be skipped.

2.      The PTFs you ordered will be downloaded to your system. The savefiles will be placed in QGPL and logged to *SERVICE. The cover letters will be placed in QAPZCOVER. The savefiles and cover letters will not be downloaded again if they are already on your system in QGPL. If this is a customized order, Fix Central will also skip any fixes that are already loaded or applied on your system, regardless of whether the savefiles or cover letters are there.

3.      After the download is complete, it is advised to review the cume instructions prior to applying the ptfs to your system. The cume instructions may have some steps that need to be performed prior to loading all ptfs. In general, you can load and apply the PTFs using GO PTF (option 8) on your system and selecting *SERVICE as the device.

b.      Download individual fixes to my PC for installation using Download Director (requires Java)

                                                    i.     When you place an order for virtual images using Download Director you are provided with an estimated time for when your order will be ready. Return to Fix Central after that time to resume your order. Ensure that you meet all the requirements for using Download Director, and for connecting to your system if you will be downloading to an image catalog.

1.      Click the “Resume my pending orders” link from the “Order summary” page if still available. Otherwise, from the Fix Central entry page select “System i” from the Product group pulldown and select “IBM i from the Product pulldown, then select “Resume my pending orders” from the right navigation panel.

2.      The “Resume my pending orders” page lists all Download Director image orders you have placed that are still available to be downloaded. Orders will remain available for 72 hours after being placed. Select the order you want to resume and click Continue.

3.      If the order is not ready yet, you will be given a new estimated time to try again. However, if the order is ready you will be presented with a list of files for your order and the option to either download the images to your PC, or to an image catalog on your system. Select one of these options and follow the appropriate instructions below.

c.      Download virtual images using FTP

                                                    i.     When you choose to download virtual images using FTP, you will receive an email when your order is ready to be downloaded. Follow the instructions in the email to obtain your images. Your order will remain available to download for 72 hours.

1.      The instructions in the email to obtain your images will look like the following instructions, scroll down the email until you find them:

a.      DOWNLOAD USING THE FTP COMMAND FROM OS/400
Select this method only if you will be using image catalogs.

    ftp "delivery01-bld.dhe.ibm.com"
    Name: "anonymous"
    Password: xxxxxxxx
    namefmt 1
    lcd /[directory on system]
    ascii
    cd /ccss/B684**/142649**/C
    get ftpSF997**.txt
    get ilstSF997**.txt
    get sha256.txt
    binary
    get SF997**_1.bin
    get SF997**_2.bin
    get SF997**_3.bin
    get SF997**_4.bin
    quit

b.      For the above commands, begin with the top FTP command to open the connection to the FTP file network, then paste the commands that follow in sequential order to begin downloading each file successfully and to the correct directory.

c.      See Step 3 for instructions on Creating a Directory on the system.

d.      Continue to Step 4.

d.      Download to PC for FTP to System

                                                    i.     When you choose to download to your PC, you must first select Download virtual images using FTP, from here you will receive an email when your order is ready to be downloaded. Your order will remain available to download for 72 hours.

1.      In the email, there will be a link provided that looks like the one below:

a.      o DOWNLOAD USING A WEB BROWSER
  Click on the link below.

ftp://delivery01-bld.dhe.ibm.com/ccss/B68441/142649**/C

2.      This will open a web browser window with each individual bin file listed. Click on each file in the listing and download them to a unique folder on your PC. (For this example, a folder named Install will be used, and the location will be \Desktop\Install.

3.      Once all PTF bin files are in the folder, create a directory on the system for the files to be transferred to (see Step 3 for instructions).

4.      To transfer the PTF files to the system, open a Command Prompt (Windows Search bar - CMD) on the PC and follow the commands below:

a.      FTP Process

                                                                                                                i.     Commands:

cd desktop

ftp [target system IP address]

bin

quote site namefmt 1

cd /[directory on system]

put SF997**_1.bin

a.      continue the above command for all PTF files in the folder that you wish to transfer to the system for installation.

quit

b.      Once the files are all transferred to the directory on the system, you may close out the Command Prompt and open the iSeries menu.

c.      See Step 4 for Image Catalog Creation.

3)     Creating a Directory on the System

a.      To create a Directory on the system for the PTF files to reside in, run the following command on the console command line:

                                                    i.     CRTDIR [name of directory]

CRTDIR

b.      If you’d like you can confirm the PTF files have been successfully transferred to the directory. Run the following command to check the directory for the files:

                                                    i.     WRKLNK [name of directory]

WRKLNK

4)     Creating an Image Catalog on the System

a.      To create an Image Catalog on the system for the PTF images, run the following command on the console command line:

                                                    i.     CRTIMGCLG IMGCLG(new catalog name) DIR(name of directory from Step 3)

CRTIMGCLG

5)     Creating Image Catalog Entries

a.      To install the PTF files, you must add them as entries in the Image Catalog you created in step 4. Follow the example below to add the files as entries for installation. Type the following command on the console command line to begin adding entries:

               i. To add all the images in the image catalog directory at one time, run the following:

i-i.     CALL PGM(QVOIFIMG) PARM('TESTIMGCLG' '*ALL' 0) ; where TESTIMGCLG is the name of image catalog created in Step 4.

OR use the following to add the images individually to the image catalog:

                                                    i-ii.     ADDIMGCLGE IMGCLG(new catalog from Step 4) FROMFILE('SF997**_1.bin') TOFILE(*FROMFILE)

ADDIMGCLGE

ii.     This will begin adding the PTF files as entries on the image catalog. Once you run the above command, you will have added one of the PTF files to the catalog, press F9 to bring up the command again, and alter the name of the file to the next file in the directory to add all PTF files to the image catalog. For example, if you have 6 PTF bin files in the directory, run the command until each of the 6 files have been added to the image catalog.

6)     Loading the Image Catalog

a.      To install the PTF files, you must load the newly created image catalog to a Virtual Optical Device on the system. Use to below steps to find an available Virtual Optical Device:

                                                    i.     WRKDEVD *OPT

1.      From the list of optical devices, find a virtual device with a type of 632B. If one does not exist, create a virtual optical device using the following command:

1.      CRTDEVOPT DEVD(OPTVRT01) RSRCNAME(*VRT)

Ensure that the virtual optical device is varied on. Option 8 from the 'Work with Device Descriptions' screen can be used to determine that status and vary it on.

WRKDEVD *OPT

b.      To load the image catalog to the virtual device, use the following command:

                                                    i.     LODIMGCLG IMGCLG(new catalog from Step 4) DEV(virtual optical device name)

LODIMGCLG

7)     Installing the PTFs from Image Catalog

a.    Review the Cumulative Package instructions and/or PTF Cover Letters to determine if there are any special instructions that must be followed.

b.      To install the PTF files using the new image catalog entries, run the following commands on the console command line:

                                                    i.     GO PTF

                                                   ii.     8

1.      Device(virtual optical device name)

2.      Automatic IPL(N)

3.      Prompt for media(1)

4.      Restart type(*SYS)

5.      Other options(N)

GO PTF - option 8

8)     IPL the System to Apply the PTFs

a.      After you complete Step 7 without error, you can IPL the system when time allows. All PTFs loaded and marked to apply during the IPL are expected to be applied when the system comes back up. After the system is has completed the IPL, issue WRKPTFGRP to ensure the Cumulative and Group PTFs show an "Installed" status.
