If Microprocessor trays, replacement part number (FRU) 41Y3157 or replacement part number (FRU) 41Y3156, are run in systems with downlevel code, system errors that cause overwriting of the cache might occur. This issue might result in data loss.

If Microprocessor trays, replacement part number (FRU) 41Y3157 or replacement part number (FRU) 41Y3156, are configured in systems with downlevel code, system errors that cause overwriting of the cache might occur.

This issue might result in data loss.

Affected configurations

The system may be any of the following IBM servers:

  • System x3850, type 8863, any model
  • System x3950 E, type 8874, any model
  • System x3950, type 8872, any model
  • xSeries 260, type 8865, any model
  • xSeries 366, type 8863, any model
  • xSeries 460, type 8872, any model
  • xSeries MXE-460, type 8874, any model

Solution

Do not install either replacement part number (FRU) 41Y3157 or replacement part number FRU) 41Y3156 in an IBM xSeries 260, xSeries 366, xSeries 460, or xSeries MXE-460.

These microprocessor trays are not compatible with IBM xSeries 260, xSeries 366, xSeries 460, or xSeries MXE-460 systems.

Ensure Microprocessor tray replacement part number (FRU) 41Y3157 is installed in an IBM System x3800 or System x3850 only, and ensure the system firmware is at or greater than the levels listed below.

Ensure Microprocessor tray replacement part number (FRU) 41Y3156 is installed in an IBM System x3950 or System x3950 E only, and ensure the system firmware is at or greater than the levels listed below.

Minimum system firmware levels for replacement part number (FRU) 41Y3157 and (FRU) 41Y3156:

  • Basic input/output system (BIOS) v1.09 build ZUJT54A
  • Remote Supervisor Adapter II (RSA II) v1.08 build ZUEP37C
  • Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) v2.07 build Z2BT05E
  • Complex Programmable Logic Device (CPLD) v1.06 build HEUD18A
  • Diagnostic program (diagnostics) v1.05 build ZUYT27A
Additional information

Additional precautions:

  1. If planning to add IBM System x 3950 or System x3950 E servers to an existing multi-node configuration that consists of IBM xSeries 460 and xSeries 460-MXE servers or create a new multi-node configuration that consists of a combination of IBM xSeries 460, xSeries 460-MXE, System x3950, and System x3950 E servers, install minimum or higher code levels on all nodes, to avoid unpredictable operation.
  2. If planning to upgrade an existing xSeries 260, xSeries 366, xSeries 460, or xSeries 460-MXE server by installing the option kit, replacement part number (CRU) 41Y5005, or if planning to add the option kit to an existing multi-node configuration, ensure that the system firmware is at minimum or higher levels.
