Processing Time - Response time of the application/service/endpoint

Question & Answer

Question

Where the application/service/endpoint is spending time?

Answer

1

e.g. A call to shop service takes 1000ms, shop service makes 2 downstream calls, one HTTP call to payment service that takes 300ms, and a DATABASE call to catalog service that takes 200ms, then the SELF-time of shop service is 1000-300-200=500ms.

The processing time answers the question, if my service is slow, is it slow because of expensive processing in the service itself or is it because of some downstream dependencies?
