Process Control hangs at Exec_Program command in Gentran:Director

Troubleshooting

Problem

Process Control hangs at Exec_Program command in Gentran:Director

Symptom

Gentran:Director for Windows, All 32-bit Releases
Using Process Control
Process Control sessions periodically hang at Exec_Program command
The Processes tab of the Windows Task Manager shows that the executable called by the Exec_Program command is not running
There are multiple files with extension .mdb in the C:\DirectorConnection\Database directory
At least one of the .mdb files in the Database directory other than GentranDirector.mdb has a name that starts with "GentranD", such as GentranDirector-old.mdb
Even if the Director software is closed and the Director Executive stopped, the GentranDirector.ldb file does not automatically disappear from the Database directory (That file is normally only in existence while the Director Executive is running)
NOTE: If the executable called by the Exec_Program command in Process Control shows as still running in the Windows Task Manager after the program has hung, this is not the proper solution to use.
