Problem
You may run into trouble with special characters when opening .csv files with Excel.
Many times users will run Birt reports in Maximo and then export them to .csv.
If you open the .csv directly with Excel, you may find that some special characters do not display properly.
You can see if the character exports to the .csv properly by opening it in a text editor like notepad.
The character substitution happens when you import into excel.
To work around this, do the following
Open Excel with no document.
File, New Document, Blank.
Data, from Text/CSV
Select the .csv file
You can see the data in the import window, and you may notice that the special character may be corrupted.
See File Origin 1252 (Western European) Change this to 65001 UTF-8 and click load.
That should import the .csv file properly
