What should I do if the Preview (in Document Connect for Lotus Notes) does not show the expected results?
Answer
The following table lists the most frequent preview problems and their possible solutions:
| Problem | Solution |
| Fields or literals of the composed document are not displayed. | Check the "Hide When" properties of the field or text properties of the fields or literals that are not displayed |
| Fields or literals do not have the expected layout characteristics. | Check the field and text properties of the fields and the literals. In particular the font, paragraph alignment or paragraph margin tab. If fields are contained in tables or sections or other Notes design elements, then check the corresponding properties. |
| Header or footer is not displayed. | 1. Open the element .cdDocLayoutDefault in the Designer. Look at the default value of CD$StartPage1 and CD$StartPage2 to see the names of the header and footer elements. 2. Verify the correct header or footer is specified, especially if the header or footer elements are nested. I.e. CD$StartPage1 specifies .cdHeader and .cdHeader contains another element called .cdHeader1. 3. Remove empty lines in the used header / footer. 4. Verify that there is a reference to a document layout element that starts with .cdDocLayout, such as .cdDocLayoutDefault, in the root form of the template. 4. If the problem persists, go into .cdPaperFormat.A4 or cdPaperFormat.Letter and enlarge CD$HeaderLength or CD$FooterLength. |
| An isolated Footer appears on (an otherwise empty new) first page | Insert a blank character (marked as left alignment) at the beginning of the user definition in template (after the .cdDocLayoutDefault) |
| The header is not displayed on one line as intended.. Example: This is a Header 2(2) | In the Lotus Designer go into .cdHeader1 (or the header template which displays the header text), mark the whole text , go into text properties and checkmark on the "Pagination" options as displayed below ("Keep Paragraph on one page", "Keep paragrapph with next paragraph") |
| Empty pages are displayed. | 1. Look for an unintended element reference named .cdPageBreak. This creates a page break. Remove this element reference from the template. 2. A table had been found whose length exceeded the CD$BodyTextLength. If possible, split the table into two or more tables. If the problem is caused by a (long) text field in the table, split this field into two or more subfields. If the problem persists consider substituting the table (and its fields) by plain (floating) text. |
