"To prevent possible loss of data ... Try to locate the last nonblank cell" error message when processing form layouts

Troubleshooting

Problem

User tries to 'Process Layout' a form. An error appears.

Symptom

Error #1:
Standard Error
Source: Microsoft Office Excel
Description: To prevent possible loss of data, Microsoft Office Excel cannot shift nonblank cells off the worksheet.

Try to locate the last nonblank cell by pressing CTRL+END, and delete or clear all in cells between the last cell and the end of the data. Then select cell A1 and save your workbook to reset the last Cell used.

Error #2

ControllerForms

Object reference not set to an instance of an object

Cause

Excel is trying to shift non-blank cells off of the Sheet

There are several possible scenarios which could trigger this:

Scenario 1
There is a non-blank in the final column.

Scenario 2
The Form layout contains an expanding column and when this column expanded it creates more columns than Excel can cope with.

Resolving The Problem

Scenario 1

Delete the offending data in the relevant cell

Scenario 2

Instead of using the expansion option in the column definition, just select the required items.
