Power Node Service Processor might reset with SRC B181EF88 - IBM Flex Systems

Problem

The Flexible Service Processor (FSP) of a Power compute node could encounter an internal issue and reset itself. In some cases, there is a dump file for further analysis. An event similar to the one below is logged: Text: Node 03- Node Node 03 message:(System Event) system hardware failure. Node Information: Event: B181EF88 replacement part number: 00E0753 Log Sequence number: 00000000 Aux:Firmware. See procedure FSPSP04 then Sys Brd (5063CDA9 B181EF88 030000F0 547C0510 C1F320FF Aux: 400000FF 0000007A 1A000000 00000000 00000000) SRC B181EF88 simply indicates that a dump has been generated. The FSP restarts after the dump is taken, and continues normal operation.

Symptom

SRC B181EF88 simply indicates that a dump has been generated.

The FSP restarts after the dump is taken, and continues normal operation.

Affected configurations

The system can be any of the following IBM servers:

  • Flex System p24L Compute Node, type 1457, any model
  • Flex System p260 Compute Node, type 7895, any model
  • Flex System p270 Compute Node, type 7954, any model
  • Flex System p460 Compute Node, type 7895, any model

The system is configured with one or more of the following IBM options:

  • Flex System Chassis Management Module, option 68Y7029, any replacement part number

This tip is not software specific.

Additional information

Procedure FSPSP04 advises there was an issue with the service processor firmware and points to procedure LICCODE.

Procedure LICCODE covers flashing the FSP firmware.

If the issue persists, or additional analysis of the FSP reset is desired, the dump file can be collected and submitted to IBM support for analysis.
