Due to improved reliability and ample run time in the field, IBM has updated the minimum level of FlashSystems firmware to the 1.5.1.2 level in January 2019. Please upgrade to at least this level to avoid a rare data issue when a flash card fails. For A9000/R systems, this is addressed starting in 12.2.1.b-1 and later firmware releases.
IBM has identified a very rare bug that could affect data. If a flash card has a soft, transient error it may send incorrect data. The incorrect data will be detected by the system and will not leave the Flash system. However, if the affected flash card then fails, the rebuild will contain the undetected, incorrect data that can then be transmitted outside the Flash system. The A9000/R resiliency will avoid any corruption reaching out side the system. The impact of A9000/R will be only a Medium Error and in rare cases, loss of access (LOA).
