Postscripts Backup Job Failed With Error 'RC=127'

Troubleshooting

Problem

A backup job performed with the IBM Storage Copy Data Management (SCDM) software fails.

The following error is visible in the job log:

INFO,<ID, Timestamp>, Script arguments
WARN,<ID, Timestamp>, The command executed on the remote host failed with return code of 127
INFO,>ID, Timestamp>, Guest script failed. rc=127

Symptom

Meaning of 'rc=127':

This error is caused by the script that was run. The return code rc=127 indicates an error in the executed script and shows that a command was either not found, or a used command did not find a system path environment variable.

Cause

Possible causes of this error:

  • The executed command was not found in a system's path environment variable.
  • Due to a typographical error in the script.
  • The environment variables are not correctly added to the executed script.
  • The executed command is being carried out on a system other than the one intended.
  • The command that was executed might have been deleted or renamed.

Resolving The Problem

To solve the issue, ensure that the command exists in the PATH and that all necessary system environment variables are set correctly.
